ILLUMINATI - Enjoy The Lights
With creations by six artists, three women and three men, each illustrating these unique lights and their multitude of infinite interpretations.
These "Night Lights" explore a multitude of related concepts, including some on the trail of dreams and realities :
The starry sky of an extraordinary Milky Way in the Amazon - the further away the lights of civilisation are, the more beautiful the skies are and the more legible and dreamlike the constellations - photographic work by Nicola Lo Calzo.
Countless Queer "Voguing" parties and performances and their "Ball Rooms" on the New York scene (1989 - 1990) by Chantal Regnault.
London's urban and nocturnal lights with Rut Blees Luxemburg - luminous reflections playing with the rain in the city streets.
Light sculptures made of blown crystal structuring space - historical Light & Space artist from Los Angeles - Laddie John Dill.
Almost abstract flashes of light shaped and engraved in metal, resin and Plexiglas, vibrating in a lyrical and luminous gesture by Claudia Meyer.
Small-format paintings and photographs on glass, full of finesse, by Vivian Van Blerk - The struggle between man and nature.
VIVIAN VAN BLERK :
Vivian van Blerk, a South African artist (1971-2024, died in Paris), explores the fragility of existence through ceramics and photography. His works combine models, photographs and installations, addressing themes such as "Memento Mori "and the resilience of nature in the face of human destruction, concealing unique inner worlds, while his large-scale installations question our impact on the environment in a post-human future dominated by the rebirth of nature.
LADDIE JOHN DILL :
Laddie John Dill, born in 1943 in Long Beach, is an American artist and graduate of the Chouinard Art Institute. An apprentice to figures such as Rauschenberg, he is one of the pioneers of the Californian "Light & Space" movement. He creates works using concrete, glass, sand and light, which are exhibited in prestigious museums such as MoMA and LACMA. Based in Venice, California, he draws inspiration from natural materials to reinvent art beyond traditional painting, notably using crystal and gas.
NICOLA LO CALZO :
Nicola Lo Calzo, an Italian-French photographer born in 1979, explores the interactions of minorities with their environment and the memories of the slave trade through his project "Cham". His work has been exhibited in prestigious museums and festivals and is featured in public collections such as the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, the FNAC (Fonds National d'Art Contemporain) and the Tropenmuseum. Author of books such as Regla and Obia, he collaborates with the international press and directed the "Kazal" project in Haiti. Lo Calzo lives between Paris, the Caribbean and West Africa.
RUT BLEES LUXEMBURG :
Rut Blees Luxemburg explores urban representation through photography, public installations such as ‘Silver Forest’ in Westminster, or the Piccadilly's Piccadilloes series at Heathrow, and opera productions. She has exhibited in the United Kingdom (Tate Liverpool and the Museum of London), France, Germany and the United States. She teaches at the Royal College of Art and her works feature in prestigious collections such as those of the Tate, the Centre Pompidou and the FNAC (Fonds National d'Art Contemporain).
